This year we have had the
joy of planting a vegetable garden at Our
Lady of Solitude! After a friend of
ours gave us some tomato plants, we were
inspired to give desert gardening a shot.
Having found some seeds lying around, we
planted them with a little prayer and began
watering our sand and rock laden plot of
land!
Much to our surprise and
delight, the seeds quickly grew and before
we knew it, we had a thriving garden.
Mind you, our definition of 'thriving' might
be a bit different than yours!
Lettuce, yellow squash, peas, peppers, and
carrots began growing. Just recently
we had our first harvest. Well...if
you want to call it that! We picked a
head of lettuce, about 4 yellow squash, nine
tiny pea pods, and one under grown carrot!
That night at dinner, we had a feast of
garden fresh veggies *smile, smile.
We were pleased with our
first harvest! And we look forward to
subsequent harvests...and a more fruitful
garden next year! |
