Team St. Meinrad

Team St. Meinrad has a very unique story. It's one that we can't help but sharing with you...for your edification. When Sr. Augustine shared it with the community, there wasn't a dry eye in the house!

Our dear friend (and soon-to-be priest) Deacon John Parks is in his final semester at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. He volunteered to organize a run at his beloved homeaway from home: St. Meinrad.

Not only did he organize a run, he 'advertised' it during colloquies. As only Deacon John can, he had everyone enthused and ready to run.

On the day of the event, there were 15 seminaries commited to doing the race. Thanks to the help of his friends, they mapped out a course, set up water stands, got a photographer and a D.J., and they had a post-race party!

There's 2 remarkable facts to note: The St. Meinrad winner of the 10K was only seconds behind our on-site 10K winner. (OK, so it just so happens that he is a marathon runner with boundless energy...so much so that he was ready to keep on going after the race)

The other remarkable fact involves a very special seminarian named Jamie. He is a blind seminarian studying at St. Meinrad. This remarkable young man ran the 5K with the help of his friend, Steve, who guided Jamie by holding on to a rope - as they ran side by side through the course. That is so awesome!

I can't help but think that the great John Paul II was smiling down on these young men...and future priests. Truly the John Paul II generation ROCKS!
